UConn Recreation Welcomes New Staff

Meet the newest members of the UConn Recreation Team:

Beesanne Kurzum, Coordinator for Special Programmatic Initiatives

Beesanne attended the State University of New York College at Cortland where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Anthropology, as well as her Master’s Degree in Management of Leisure Services. Beesanne is originally from Poughkeepsie, New York.

Carolyn Monette, Coordinator of Aquatics

Carolyn grew up in central Massachusetts and received her Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2017. Carolyn recently graduated from the University of Georgia with a Master’s degree in Sport Management and Policy. During her time at UGA she served as the Graduate Assistant for Aquatics with the Department of Recreational Sports in the Division of Student Affairs.

Colin Sandoz, Manager- Operations, Maintenance and Fitness Equipment

Colin attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Kinesiology with a concentration in Recreation & Sport Management. He worked part-time at the Rec Center from 2010-2014.

Colin worked in the oilfield and restaurants until deciding to return back to school for his Master’s degree. Colin earned a Master’s of Science Kinesiology with a concentration in Health Promotion, Recreation & Sport Management at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2017.  During graduate school, he was the GA of Facility Operations from 2017-2019. Colin was born and raised in South Louisiana.

Lauren Dalton, Assistant Program Director, Fitness & Wellness

Lauren joined UConn Recreation in May 2019. Prior to UConn, she served as a Fitness Coordinator at Drexel University for 8 years, where she received her Master’s degree in Sports Management in 2011.

Lauren began working in the collegiate recreation field as an undergraduate at the University of South Carolina. She also earned her Bachelor’s degree at the University of South Carolina in Public Relations and a minor in Business.

Marquis Little, Coordinator of Personal Training

Marquis received his Bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology and Human Development from Boston College in 2017. Marquis recently graduated from Rowan University with a Master’s degree in Wellness & Lifestyle Management where he served as the Fitness & Wellness Graduate Coordinator in their Campus Recreation.

Matt Ferreira, Specialist of Athletic Training

Matt joins us from West Virginia University where he was a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer, working with WVU Club Sports and Intramurals. While at WVU, Matt earned a Master’s degree in Athletic Training. Prior to WVU, Matt was an Assistant Athletic Trainer at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. Matt grew up in Wilmington, MA and completed his undergraduate course work at Springfield College with a Bachelor’s in Athletic Training.

Melissa Frain, Assistant Director of Business and Outreach Initiatives

Melissa Frain joined the UConn Rec team on June 7th as the Assistant Director of Business and Outreach Initiatives. She has served the last 3.5 years as the UConn Rec’s Coordinator of Financial Services. Prior to her time at UConn, Melissa was the Fitness Manager for The Fitness Center at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. Melissa received both her Bachelor’s in Exercise Science and Master’s in Health Education from Middle Tennessee State University. Melissa is originally from Nashville, Tennessee.
